I dont think he had time to grow that before filming Tombstone. It looks like 6 to 12 months growth depending on genes.

I say that both Tombstone and DD Lewis in "Gangs of New York" both qualify. Also, try viewing "The Duellists".The Napoleonic era facial hair was a delight as well. Jim Jim, That's interesting. I have only just received a copy of 'Tombstone' through Amazon.com as it is no longer available in Australia. There is no comment at all about the facial hair on my copy. I also got myself a copy of 'Gettysburg' and is well worth a look if you have not seen it. I think that with the exception of Sam Elliot, all facial hair is fake. Jeff Daniels takes the part of Colonel Joshua Chamberlain who has a most interesing moustache: Anyway, I'll keep a lookout for other facial hair films. Stewart

Kurt Russells' moustache screams fake to me. There is no semi-part at the center, just grows straight down, and has a vibe of fake about it.

I take it back. It even has a facebook page of its own: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kurt-Russells-moustache-in-Tombstone/255991557230 From an interview with Michael Biehn here http://www.movieweb.com/news/exclusive-michael-biehn-revisits-johnny-ringo-in-tombstone"Tombstone has, hands down, the most handsome and manicured group of mustaches I have ever seen assembled in a film. What was the atmosphere like in the mustache-grooming trailer, and were you ever a little disappointed that your mustache didn't carry as much flair as some of the other guys? Or were they just trying to overcompensate for something else? Michael Biehn: I don't know. Everyone just grew a moustache. When it comes down to it, this goes back to Kevin Jarre, the film's original director. He was very specific about how he wanted the moustaches. He wanted them to curl up on the end. Which means, if you grow a moustache, and it grows long enough, you have to use wax on the end of it. Everyone was pretty proud that they grew their own moustache. There was one guy, Jon Tenney. He didn't get to grow his own moustache because he had a job right before that. They had to put a fake moustache on him. I think he always felt a little bit like the small dog of the group. Because it wasn't his real moustache. He had to take his moustache of everyday. It wasn't like a moustache styling competition. I don't think anyone paid much attention to his moustache. Unless Kevin said, "Someone work on Michael Biehn's moustache!"'

Just had to chime in on this one: While not technically a handlbar, Titus Welliver in Gone Baby, Gone had a fantastic movie mustache...easily top ten in my book. I'm not sure where there's a pic to be posted, but it's worth looking for. As I understand it, he was filming Deadwood at the same time and had to keep the stache for it.
