I shall be going with my young lady. Unless medical advances see the invention of some new super-tache pill I shall not be competing- only spectating.
Is the parade for competitors only?

I'll be journeying from Bucks by my preferred mode of transport: the train. OK, I don't own a car.
Hopefully we'll come down Saturday morning and stay the night, ready for a Sunday full of shopping and sampling bourbons at that pub with the vast array of said brown stuff. I forget the name of it.

My wife has a sister living in Crowhurst, near Battle (1066 Hastings). I thought this could justify a trip to Brighton. However, I am reminded that SWMBO has a milestone birthday on September 1. Apparently, the WBMC is not on her birthday wishlist.

Hmm, I've been wondering about this myself. Living just along the coast, it wouldn't be too big a problem for me to get there. However, I'm not exactly convinced my 'tache is impressive enough for competition. On the other hand, I think I'd feel strange being there and just observing from afar.
I don't know what, if anything, I'm going to do

GbH, if for no other reason, go for the experience, the fun, and, unlike some of us, because you can. You'd have a chance to meet other members of the HBC (like Pascal), and be among fellow handlebars. Hoist a pint for those of us that wish we could go, then tell us all about what we've missed.

Just remembered the name of the pub with the bourbons: The Great Eastern. I'll be going there on the Sunday for a (veggie) roast and a few glasses of Woodford Reserve.
Is it normal to love bourbon but feel mouthwateringly nauseous at the merest whiff of Scotch?

I don't think so. From what I've gathered over the past week, you are a man of varied and distinctive style. I doubt that you worry, with any sincerity, about not fitting a norm.
But no ... I would guess (and that's all this really is) that a Bourbon man is most often at least somewhat of a Scotch man as well. Don't let it get you down. More Scotch for me.

Guys,
Come along, and take part. I went to my first championships way back in 199something and got smitten with the fun and cameraderie. Since then I have travelled far and wide, made a multitude of friends and perhaps most important of all sampled vast quantities of fine ( and not so fine)ale. To this day I 'enter' but do not 'compete' -after all the guys organising it need your entry fees. I am trying to come LAST in every moustache category but I keep entering 'Natural', why? Because it takes even less time to prepare than on a normal day, I know I'll come last so I can then wax my 'tache and spend the rest of the time being sociable with past, present and FUTURE friends. This time ALL profits are being donated to charity. You might have guessed by now I'm one of the unfortunates organising this years folly! Come along- compete, spectate whichever, being sociable is more important and brings your friends- it is in aid of charity!! If you can't make it on the day (Schnauzer!), I think there are a number of international reprobates intending to visit The Windsor Castle on our regular First Friday meeting on Sept 7th. Rod VP-HBC

Finally, a challenge I can take up. I reckon I can take that LAST place off of you.

Thank you HBCRod for your recent posts. I had only recently asked why we hadn't seen any posts from more of the regular HBC members. Sadly, all of the posts between June 30 and July 22 have been lost due to a hard drive crash. Among those were several posts, including a few of my own, which had encouraged members of this forum to attend WBMC for the very reasons you sited in this thread. I hope you become a frequent poster here and encourage World Champion Steve Parsons, Andy Lear, Bruce Roe and others to do the same. Many of us would value your input.

Ditto RodHBC. Come and join in the fun. I went to my first championships in Berlin in 2005 and despite sporting my own feeble specimen came away with 1st prize in my category. Despite that obviously being beginers luck and lightening never striking twice etc, I am now a seasoned attendee at various championships because it is such absolute spiffing fun. See you all in Brighton !

Thanks Steve for taking the time to post recently. I hope you will post frequently and give us all the benefit of your hirsute expertise.
Best of British luck at defending your title in Brighton.
