The Handlebar Club Forum

"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

Inspired by the great Handlebar Moustache Game introduced by bent_pipe, and other games on online forums, I would like to try to introduce another game.

Basically, it is a word game. Each person writes a sentence (or two or three or more; there are no judges) and the next person has to start his post with the last word from the previous post. In the game that I propose, each post should either add to or conclude the previous post such that we create a running story of sorts. The plot, setting, characters, etc. can change on a whim; absurd twists are expected. The idea is to “keep the story going” while adhering to THE ONLY RULE: start your post with the last word from the previous post.

Oh, and including men with handlebar moustaches is obviously encouraged :)

I'll make the first post to get us started.

Let's be creative and have fun!

Edit: If you want to make a comment that is not part of the story, put it in square brackets [so we know it is not part of the game].

“The handlebar!” she shrieked with her dying breath as the pub patrons gaped in astonishment at the stranger.

Stranger things had never before happened in The Handlebar Pub. The landlord immediately called for an ambulance, whilst one of the patrons loosened the woman's blouse and began compressions.

Compressions to the lady's chest had been going on for quite some time now, then suddenly she gasped for air and screamed.

Screamed firstly in agony, but then, with a faint voice, repeated the words "the handlebar".

"The handlebar," she gurgled again as she began vomiting blood. Everyone stared in horror has a satisfied man with an English moustache watched the woman finally die before he discretely left the bar.

Bar stools lay broken on the floor. Her lifeless body lay in a pool of blood. In her hand was a tuft of whiskers.

Whiskers twitching, the director called out crossly, "Cut!"
He strode out front of the camera dolly. "No-no-no! You're doing it like this is a Hammer Horror movie. Think Stanislavsky, and just feel it! We'll do it again!"
"Now places, everybody. Here we go .... and, Action."

Action came quickly, but from an unexpected direction, as a bespectacled man with a long white beard burst on to the film set.

Set on revenge, the old man ran up behind the director and tugged sharply on his handlebar moustache. The director turned to rain fury on the unseen perpetrator but his features softened immediately when he saw who it was. “I see you have started styling your moustache again old boy,” he said casually.

'Casually' described the interlude perfectly, as the two old friends shook hands vigorously and gave each other's handlebar admiring inspection.

Inspection of the true form was yet to come, as they both were entering the same beard & moustache competition later on in the year.

"Year?" quoth he, wearing his bowler hat. "I thought it was more like a month. Maybe though, I am thinking of some other time; maybe last year on... perhaps... was it Bloomsday?"

Bloomsday it was not, perhaps confused by drink. Year in and year out these two old friends would cheerfully greet one another and enjoy copious pints of ale together.

Together they stood, both wearing their handlebar club members tie and smoking a pipe while having a good old natter about old times.
