"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

I went for a haircut yesterday. My regular place, you just walk in; no appointment necessary and you get whoever's available - I rarely get the same barber. First thing out her mouth? "I love your moustache".

I might have liked her then and there except for the fact that she was the chatty sort and began to refer to her husband as a redneck with a long beard; then, promptly apologised for implying I might be a redneck too. I was not offended in the slightest. I cautioned her about getting too close to the ends of the 'tache while she was cutting my sideburns - Oh, no problem. The trimmer battery was running low so she reached for the clippers and promptly nicked the back of my neck - to which I quipped "you're intent on making me redneck, aren't you?" She was very apologetic and applied some ointment/cream to the irritated area and insisted I apply some cream to the handlebar ends - No thanks, I said. She applied the red neck discount to the regular price but I shall be avoiding her next time. The moral is: if you go to a cut-rate barber, you get what you pay for - cuts and all.

Working away from home, I had gotten into the habit of cutting my own hair, which alleviated the above issues, however upon returning home my significant other, when I bring up the idea of shaving my head again, tells me "But you look so handsome with hair!" When I was away from home I went to a barber once and then got to thinking..."Hey, I can save a few bucks shaving my own head!"

For those that decide to do this, a few pointers...

Lesson 1:
Don't use an under powered battery powered beard trimmer. They stall out! :o

Lesson 2.
Make sure you have spare batteries if you havn't learned lesson 1 yet.

Lesson 3.
A hand mirror is critical to have...A digital camera will show the spots you missed but it is a pain. The reflective side of a CD only shows so much! Not so much for the top, front and sides, but for the back.

Lesson 4.
Buy a hair trimmer. They're not expensive and they plug into the wall. No need for batteries.

Lesson 5.
Find a barber that you're comfortable going to, and stick with them!

That is EXACTLY what I have done! I found a man by the name of Richie The Barber In Hollywood CA. Found him online while looking for a place to get my hair cut. The only bad review on him was someone who gave him 4/5 stars all others were 5/5! Yea sure he is one HELL of a barber, but thing is he has himself ONE HELL of a handlebar (please excuse the language). Also as a appreciation to other 'stachers he gives half off cuts/shaves to everyone who has a moustache!

So if anyone in the Hollywood area of California ever needs a hair cut, make sure you check this guy out!

Mb_welder has a fantastic point about trimming your own hair! This is what I did for a couple of years (as I kept my hair rather short). Got myself a pair of clippers (whal) and started doing it myself! Save a ton of money from not having to go to a barber or a highdy-tidy salon.

Cheers
