I trim just behind the split end. Usually, there are only a small few that split.

stewart, good idea but i do not trust myself with a scissor.have not used a scissor in months.any conditioner that works well?

I've been using a normal conditioner for a while and I have not had a split end for months.

When you get them, trim behind on each hair using a small pair of scissors.

I just use the same shampoo and conditioner that I use for my hair. Can't recall the last time I had split ends.
