"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

What do you do when you have shaving envy?

What is shaving envy? Envy of those who can shave when you are unable? Envy of those who shave more than you? Who shave "better" than you?

For some guys we are conditioned to think that shaving equals manliness, but later, hopefully, learn being a man has nothing to do with follicle activity. More is not always better. Sometimes less makes us look within and find what is really more and better.

I think sometimes this world does not deserve our moustaches.

The world needs our moustaches. It would be so bland and ordinary without them. Being so lacking in itself, needing to be uplifted, illuminated and inspired, it is we who must wade in amongnst the common with our awesomeness. "Noblesse oblige." lol.

Are not the tips and curls of our moustaches, directed upward, a clear and open intention to women that we are eager, ready, and willing to mate?

Yet women persist to be oblivious to this simple and obvious facet of our manly efforts to grow our moustches. They are more interested in the actual moustache than the meaning which the moustache conveys.

This lack of female acuity to be on par with their desire infuriates me to no end.

The bee knows there is nectar for her, and that is what she lives for. Yet she may be blind to whereabouts of the treasure that awaits her. So the petals are a must, and the ardent bloom, eager to produce seed, uses them to signal his intended to the feast and guide her in to have her fill - and his. The stamens await, hanging heavy with pollen, standing proud with promise of ecstasy for all.

And if nothing comes of it, maybe she's just not that into you.

Lol, but seriously, our relationships are guided by more than surface things. I view the handlebar moustache as awesome in itself. Some women just don't like them, but some love them. I look at it as a narrow landing path for the right woman. The Creator will bring us together regardless if I am in my integrity and present myself as a decent, considerate, confident and reliable guy.

Or you would shave it off, find a woman who loves you for who you are, then grow it back when you have her heart. That's what Smedstad did. lol.

Si I am not alone out there? There are other manly men walking out somewhere, raising proud their virile moustaches amidst the decadent mediocrity of modern man?

The very real audacity to be different among the dumb masses is why I do what I do. I am truly thankful that this site exists to encourage and cultivate the wonder that is, the hirsute appendage of the upper lip with graspable extremities. I do hope that more join!

That is not too far from the truth... When I first met my wife, I had short hair and a full beard. It was a brief meeting and nothing came of it. About a year later, I had long hair and had shaved off my bushy beard leaving some hefty mutton chops. That’s how I looked when my wife and I got together. Since we have been married, I have had beards on many occasions, I have had a couple of horseshoe moustaches and for the past year and a half or so, it has been the king of moustaches, the handlebar!

So, I wouldn’t say I misled her by being clean shaven – she had seen me with a beard and she did know I like to change my appearance from time to time... she just never expected the handlebar :D

To stay somewhat on topic, I am starting to get shaving envy in the sense that I have decided to let me beard grow until the end of May... Now I'm at about 5 months growth and it is starting to get so big that my handlebar moustache is no longer the prominent facial feature it once was. So, I occasionally feel like shaving or at least trimming the beard - NOT the moustache

I shave my head and face with a Merkur safety razor and every time I make an offering to the blood Gods with an inattentive move, that usually cures my shaving envy and makes me wish I could just go full beard...

This mustache thing is crazy. If it were not for this forum, I would feel utterly alone since, after growing my "stache for almost five months, I have yet to meet or to see someone else wearing a handlebar. I get stared at and constantly receive comments (including ones like "shave it off!").

That is our chief weapon! And snappy uniforms. Start over!
I find it rare to meet another handlebar wearer of my age (now 38) or younger (never met a 17 year old growing one). Most are my parents age or now deceased. Like the poetry regarding facial hair, very nice.

PS I've had my beard since Fall and trimmed it some but come the warm weather I enjoy getting back into the ritual of shaving. Not sure why and I don't shave every day but even getting a good trim makes me feel a little better.
