"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

I was awarded Beard of the Year 2001 by Beardsley, and featured on their Website of the time. I did use their product, and had previously ventured an endorsement on a users' page of their site. I found the product to be very satisfactory and pleasant smelling, and that one application was sufficient, so the bottle lasted a long time.

It was later that I noticed one of the ingredients was Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, which according to some people may be hazardous in industrial quantities. However, the product emphasised its "Botanical" constituents.

Beardsley's more recent single Ultra product no longer lists this item, I am told... so I'd expect it to be as good, if not better.

Nothing special.Just a bit of shampoo/conditioner combo.
And only shampoo the stache once every few days.Keep those essential oils in there.

David, Sounds like that ingredient they took out could curl the ends of your mustache

The nearest I've got to a "proper" handlebar was this:

In Handlebar Club terms, it's not "proper" to have a beard as well...

I generally use a mild shampoo. I find that I have to shampoo nearly every day or I have to use the hair dryer on my mo to control it because the old wax doesn't seem to behave very well. Also, the old wax truns flacky and clumpy.

I guess that it all depends on the type of wax, weather, moustache type etc, so everyone will probably experience different results.

p.s. nice handlebar David

I use Baby shampoo to stop my mo going fuzzy.
I also find a touch of conditioner helps

Stewart

Leave in conditioner is good also

A tip –
A shampoo and conditioner for dry /damaged or a one for coloured hair may benefit some handlebars – practically strong wiry ones like mine. Shampoos and conditioners of this type have more moisturising properties (the PH level is higher than the hairs natural level which softens the cuticle) this may make your handlebar cooperate more in the mornings when styling.

I personally do not think there is a need to use shampoos and conditioners designed for beards all of the time. i have never tried

Also shampooing too often is not good – it gets rid of the natural oils produced in the sebaceous gland that keeps the hair healthy.

Hope this helps someone
Ben

Ive been growing for about two months now and I have been washing my beard and mustache in the same way I would wash my hair. A friend of mine says he tries to get as little soap in his beard. Is this the common practice? What should I do? :{0

I personally use baby shampoo in my moustache as I have funny curly issues when I get conditioner in it.

You probably have to do a little experimenting and find what works best for you.
