The Handlebar Club Forum

"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

Looks like the Germans came out on top again, claiming seven championship titles, including that of overall winner and Freestyle Full Beard Elmar Weisser - styled as a moose on one side and Norwegian flag on the other.

Whisker Club President Bruce Roe and HBC member (brucer) won the Hungarian Moustache Division. Keith “Ghandi Jones” Haubrich completed the three-peat in Freestyle Moustache. Newcomer Giovanni Dominice from Arizona won in Imperial Moustache. Silver for Jeffrey Moustache in the English Moustache category,

Check back soon for photos and complete results.

CNN article and the gold medal winners' photos click here.

This link provides full results (first, second and third) for each category and photos of respective current world champion, though some are not with an image from this event - ie, photo of Bruce Roe supplied.

My favourite 'tache is Wolfgang Schneider's (natural category).

Link to the association of German Beard Clubs (VDB). The Hungarian class does not appear and they promise to attach names to faces in due course.

It is pretty impressive! Wouldn't mind mine looking like that someday.

I can see why Rooty won, that thing is amazing.

And I love Burke Kenny's combination.

Maybe one day...

A few months back apw1970 and I were discussing the results of The Imperial (Kaiserlich) category.

Schnauzer „Kaiserlich“
klein u. buschig mit nach oben geschwungene Spitzen. Die Barthaare dürfen nur bis Ende der Oberlippe angewachsen und gestylt sein. *Hilfsmittel sind erlaubt

It's described as small and bushy with the tips pointing upward. The hair is to be styled only from the ends of the lips. I take that to mean more on the petite side, likely intended to resemble Kaiser Wilhelm II - like 3rd place Eugen Hipp's.

From Brighton 2007 onward the Imperial winners' 'taches appear less bushy and longer. In the recent WBMC, the middle appears styled with aids and the 'Spitzen' no longer point upward and are almost closed.

Protest or rule change? This happened in the Backenbart Kaiserlich category. After years of competitive threats from Jurgen Burkhardt and Franz Mitterhauser, Karl-Heinz Hille successfully protested that their curls were closed and the upper lip portion too prominent - therefore, not Kaiserlich by the definition. Jurgen and Franz have since had to enter backenbart freestyle and Hille continues to dominate the Imperial cheek beard category.

Oh, the politics at the top. Me, I'm just happy to wake up every morning and find it still there.
