A few months back apw1970 and I were discussing the results of The Imperial (Kaiserlich) category.
Schnauzer „Kaiserlich“
klein u. buschig mit nach oben geschwungene Spitzen. Die Barthaare dürfen nur bis Ende der Oberlippe angewachsen und gestylt sein. *Hilfsmittel sind erlaubtIt's described as small and bushy with the tips pointing upward. The hair is to be styled only from the ends of the lips. I take that to mean more on the petite side, likely intended to resemble Kaiser Wilhelm II - like 3rd place Eugen Hipp's.
From Brighton 2007 onward the Imperial winners' 'taches appear less bushy and longer. In the recent WBMC, the middle appears styled with aids and the 'Spitzen' no longer point upward and are almost closed.
Protest or rule change? This happened in the Backenbart Kaiserlich category. After years of competitive threats from Jurgen Burkhardt and Franz Mitterhauser, Karl-Heinz Hille successfully protested that their curls were closed and the upper lip portion too prominent - therefore, not Kaiserlich by the definition. Jurgen and Franz have since had to enter backenbart freestyle and Hille continues to dominate the Imperial cheek beard category.
Oh, the politics at the top. Me, I'm just happy to wake up every morning and find it still there.
