"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

Just tell her initially that you are going to wear an ascot. When she starts rolling her eyes, etc, break out the bowtie. The shock from the ascot will lessen the reaction to the bowtie

I agree with the happy Norwegian.
I'm wearing a bowtie today actually. I work at a Jr. High. Kids don't think another thing about it. Not a big deal. My advice: just go ahead and buy one, put it on, and wear it that day.

I was wondering what on earth an ascot was, but for any other unsuspecting UK readers, an 'ascot' in English is a CRAVAT... David
An ascot is a type of cravat - all ascots are cravats, but not all cravats are ascots. What separates an ascot from a cravat is the placement, which also influences formality.

1. I think in the UK we'd just call them Wild West Scarves... 2. I could have a "must-ash" like his right now if I wanted to, as it's constructed entirely from beard hair. He's obviously never heard of the competition 'regulation' that: The hairs are only allowed to start growing up to the end of the upper lip.
