In the years since I hacked my handlebar out from what was a full beard I have experimented with the distance from the sides of my mouth that I allow the whiskers to grow*.

For me I find the best handlebar shape results in shaving up to the smile lines (ie the wrinkles / creases in my face that appear when I smile / laugh / grimace etc). Too far out from this results in a rather unmanageable shape and too far in and the appendages start to get a bit thin in appearance.

Just wondering what your preferences are in regards to where to trim the sides?

*I am not referring to whisker length but the actual growth area.

Steve,

My beard never quite met up with my stache, so I shave it up to near the corner of my lip. My beard is a different texture, more like curly steel wool, so it probably wouldn’t look good anyway. I do intend to experiment after my stache grows longer again. I needed to do a big trim this year due to split ends from chewing it.

I'm sure it's different for everyone.

Good question anyway.

Stewart

I leave my sides short as the longer sides make my handlebar appear shorter. At least on my face that is

I do the same as you Steve. I have right up to where the "smile crease" is, and about a quarter of an inch below where the edge of my lip is. I also use to have a beard and shaved it down to the stache. Even had a goatee for a while but since EVERYONE seemed to have a goatee I shaved it off. Also I wouldn't be able to be in the club with it :-)

I shave to smile creases when shaving cheeks,

But am curious – when shaving your chin area (sides of chin), how far down from top lip do you start shaving? I shave down my chin from where the lips separate.

Anyone do different??

Thanks
Ben
