The Handlebar Club Forum

"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

A while back moustaches appeared everywhere - cellphone covers, bumper stickers, finger tattoos, T-shirts, coffee mugs, jewelry, pacifiers, etc... Today - not so much. Has the interest in moustaches (especially handlebars) peaked - or is this just my perception?

To answer that question, I turned to Google Trends which measures how often a term is searched over time and the results are interesting.

This graph shows the term "moustache" (the graph for "mustache" is similar) which clearly shows growing interest from 2004 leading to a peak in 2012 and then a decline. The regular spikes in the trend come once a year - and if you guessed that they corresponded with the month of November you would be correct.

The search for "handlebar" in the moustache context matches this.

Contrast this to "beard" which captures an increasing number of searches with no end in sight.

At least at this time, our bearded brothers are trending up while we handlebar wearers are trending down. But you probably did not need Google to tell you this.
