After going to The Windsor Castle last night and smelling a beautiful aroma from a gentleman's pipe, I asked what it was. He said it's Connoisseur's Choice. It smelt amazing so I went to my local tobacco shop and asked for a cheap pipe and some of Connoisseur's Choice. I've never smoked a pipe before but I just had to give it a go. Not too sure how to pack it or smoke it but it definitely tasted nice! I normally smoke cigarettes so was very different. Wasn't too sure weather to inhale the smoke or not. I was told it's like smoking a cigar and not meant to inhale but I found that a bit weird as I am used to inhaling. If anyone has any advice then it would be very much appreciated.

When packing your pipe, loose on the bottom and tight on the top (my opinion, others may disagree). When lighting it, get the entire surface lit and tamp it down a little. The end result should be consistent white ash on the top of your bowl. This will give you a cooler smoke. As far as inhaling, again people have different opinions. I inhale sometimes, but usually only with the lighter tobaccos. Hope this helps, Tom

Thanks Tom What I don't understand how to do, is pack the bowl loose at the bottom and tight on top. If you press down once the pipe is full, surely you are just packing it all tight?

Take a small pinch of tobacco and push in lightly with your finger, called touch of a baby. Then take another small pinch and push a bit harder, called touch of a lady. Last pinch pack in harder but not so hard it makes it difficult to draw on the pipe, called touch of a man! Strike a match and enjoy! That's how I was taught by an older fellow, it takes a bit of practice but once you figure it out it works well!

bent_pipe wrote: Take it slow and make it a hobby not a habit. Find some good pure tobacco with out any weird chemical smelling and tasting additives. Don’t smoke more than a few bowls in a day at first and experiment with different pipes. Sizes of bowls and rate of flow make a huge difference and can make any given tobacco less or more enjoyable. Some pipes need to be broken in and taste weird until you build up a good cake of carbon. Other popes need constant maintenance and need to be cleaned after each use or they will taste funny. Anyone can turn a cigarette or a cigar in to ash but it takes a little bit of knowledge and skill to enjoy a pipe. I totally agree with this. Cigar and pipes are totally hobby, not habits. As for my blend, my FLT (Friendly Local Tobacconist) hooked me up with two house blends. One is called 1960 on the Square which has a nostalgic smell, the other a sweet light blend called Buccaneer. Cheers!

Well now, that all Depends on what you mean. But to return us all to the original topic, let me just say: stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
