There's a short piece on the Club FAQ about moustache cups and I was wondering how many here actually use one?

Rather than buying an antique (which I probably will someday), I custom ordered this one from Hudson Clay-Potter, a potter in West Yorkshire.

I like the mug, but shouldn't you have asked for a design in keeping with a handlebar moustache? :P

I don't use a moustache cup per se. I do however, use a travel mug for my tea and ask for a lid for any latte served in a paper cup.

Oregon Wild Hair used to sell a wonderful little ceramic mug along with their wax. I've not been on their site recently, but I use it often.

Not a moustache cup per se, but I drink my coffee from this every morning.

I was out Christmas shopping with my wife today and found a moustache mug (currently in use as a beer stein) in a yarn store of all places. They had two, which had been drastically reduced in price (almost free). So I decided to buy one.

I can see why they weren't selling. How many moustached guys named Adam visit yarn stores, I wonder...? I figured, what the heck, I'm not Adam, but I can always tell people that it refers to the biblical Adam who most certainly would have had a spectacular moustache!

In any case, it is fun to finally own a moustache cup - hooray :beerstaches:

A protective cup for the Handlebar jock. Great find, I must look out for one of those.

Adam...ermm...Smedstad great moustache cup. Wonder why they would even make these with names haha. My infinite search for moustache gear is always a pleasure. Also antique is my passion.

Will share my "moustache" cup pic tomorrow I think.

There it is, my mug :

Image
Tasse de Gendarme by José.D, on Flickr

It is a regular mug, sadly not a "moustache" one but I love it.

The name of this mug is "Tasse de Gendarme". There is some french info of what they were in the box, but from wikipedia it is :

"A gendarme was a heavy cavalryman of noble birth, primarily serving in the
French army from the Late Medieval to the Early Modern periods of European History. Their heyday was in the late
fifteenth to mid sixteenth centuries,
when they provided the Kings of France with a potent regular force of heavily
armoured, lance-armed cavalry which,
when properly employed, could dominate
the battlefield.

The word gendarme derives originally
from the French homme d'armes (man- at-arms), plural of which is gens d'armes. The plural sense was later shortened to
gendarmes and a singular made of this,
gendarme."

Some friendly words of advice about using a moustache cup: Drink slowly

That is not really much of an issue for hot beverages, but if you find yourself using your moustache mug as a beer stein and get a little too greedy, that moustache guard will have the opposite effect and you will be enjoying a full-fledged moustache shower. Not that I have ever done anything so foolish...

You can find some ceramic moustache guard cups/mugs on etsy.com

I drink almost exclusively from a plastic bottle with a flip out spout that is like a straw. I only drink water or canned/bottled ice tea.

I have a moustache mug which I keep in the office so unfortunately can't show any pictures. It works to a point, but the opening is so big that some fluid still seeps past and dampens the tache. I am hoping to get another for home with a slightly smaller aperture. I have found some in the states which I quite like so I may get one shipped over.

I have seen the cups on etsy.com and they look like you could only get a couple of mouthfuls and then need to make another brew! I'm used to a huge mug! Lol
May have to go to a local pottery shop and see if they can make me one?!
