I just got my order of bounders and put it on a few minutes ago. I imagine I need more practice, but first impressions are not totally thrilling. The scent is nice but after a bit it had me sneezing a little.

It's a creamy pomade sort of preparation that will dry out in the tin if you leave it open, so don't. Get some out and close the tin tightly again. And the way it dries makes it hard to work with for long. Reminder: I live in the desert, so this may not apply to you at all. Applying it to my moustache was not smooth like Firehouse, which has the nicest "application experience" of those I've tried. Hold was good but close up I could see micro-crumbs that bothered me. These will smooth a bit with a moist finger, but I wasn't excited. Need more practice, of course.

So I washed it out. It says it has some soap in it, but plain water didn't dissolve it. That took some hand soap and a little scrubbing with my finger tips.

I'm going to test another glue today instead: Aileen's Clear Gel Tacky Glue. Goes on easily. I'll start another thread on that.

Eric, I can understand your difficulties. Check out my impressions as I struggled to master my application technique for Bounder. When I use it now, I do one side of my moustache at a time and keep the hair dryer on low, aimed at my moustache the whole time too keep the wax workable.

I would think if you get the knack of applying it, it will do well in a hot climate. It certainly didn't do well in cold weather! I mentioned in a previous post in this thread that it sets up quite hard and stays slightly tacky - so while it is fantastic for super holding power, it is not so good if you get any crumbs or particles in your stache.

These days I am starting to lean toward an "au naturel" look. I'll make a new post about making the transition from styled stash to wash and wear later.

But now I gotta get back to work :beret:

Eric,

Excellent review, thanks. I was thinking about trying Bounder, but I will likely pass. I'm happy with the Firehouse. I can use all of their products without heat, and that saves some time.

Cheers,

Bob

I agree about the time-saving. I prefer to use less time in front of the mirror than my wife

I am still struggling to figure out how much WT to use in my moustache for styling/strong hold/light hold. You say you use all Firehouse products, do you use each one for a specific purpose? I got the feeling from reading some posts around here that WT actually has a stronger hold than the Dark, what's your take? Are there any pics of your moustace around here where you are using Firehouse products?

I can vouche for the WT being stronger than the Dark. I currently have both tins and the WT definitely holds better/tighter, but is still a smooth application. The Dark however DOES work well w/ the center hairs. Both are good waxes in my opinion, but I DO favour the WT. I'm currently using Hndlebars now, and usually use that on my tips for a strong hold.

smedstad, no pics because I'm a computer illiterate. I do have a couple on my phone. Can I use those somehow?

Cheers,

Bob

Bob - I'm sure you could use your phone pics, but I have a feeling it would be too complicated a process for a self-professed computer illiterate. The easiest would be to buy a webcam, take pics directly on your computer using the software that comes with the camera and post those... If you have family that live far away, a good webcam is a super investment anyway!

Smedstad, if you can get your hands on a stick of burts bees honey lip balm you should try rubbing a bit of this in your 'tache its all natrual and smells delicious! I usally wax mine up and just rub a bit of it in my tache and it makes me happy all day, I. Wrote john at firehouse wax and asked him to try and make a wacky tacky variety that smelled like this cause it would sell like hot cakes!

Meangene34, Do you use it on top of the wax just for smell?? or as a wax itself?
Im sure If you wanted to you could melt it down and mix it in with one of your other waxes. (not sure if that would effect the quality and or sent of the final product) but It could be an Idea!

I use the fire house wacky tacky to get my moustache shaped the way I want it then I just rub the lip balm over the wax andcomb it all through it smells great! I thought about meltinng it all together but was worried the lip balm may affect the holding power of the wax! Even though the wax and the lip balm are made up of about the same contents!

The smell of the firehouse stuff is my only real down point with it. I didn't used to mind it too bad, but one of my latest pots was really bad and I have tried to struggle on, but to be honest it was just not good. If he was closer I would have written or asked questions, but it didn't seem worth it for the distance. Maybe it was just the one bad batch ( bought a few at the same time so all the same), but no great harm caused.

Welcome back Zookeepa. You have been MIA for some time. Had you been held captive in the lion exhibit? At any rate, time for an update please. :)

Apologies for the long departure. My work took a turn and I had a few things to do where I couldn't keep the tache earlier this year. I shaved it off and hence my shame and why I didn't stay in touch, but you can't keep a good tache down as they say! Finally back on the mend so don't feel quite so unworthy. When I marry my photos up to the computer I will add them to the right section of the forum.

Yes, yes and yes!
The smell is almost as important as the feel and hardness - it was a key point in my choosing Skippy's. While Bounders did smell good, it just couldn't compete with Skippy's scent, and not only for me - while my wife once qualified Bounders' smell as "not unpleasant" (though after months of use, she really got a dislike for it), she adores Skippy's. And that's important!

Cheers!

WW
