Hello all, this is my first attempt at growing a hb stache....as you might be able to tell from my name. I was wondering about the initial shape, ie. Where to shave, or start the initial stache. I am 15 days in and cannot wait until I join the ranks of hb owner! any and all tips are welcome! Hopefully my question is clear... Thanks in advance! P.s. I am going for the "butcher" style from gangs of new york as I feel.this style should fit my features...plus its a rad hb!

Welcome 1stimes! What I do is just shave from the cracks of my mouth down. As the hairs continue to get longer, you'll see a little easier where to shave and where not to . .. it gets easier as the hairs get longer. The key to the game is "No Trimming" any other part of your stache . . . EVER. :)

There are tons of other topics and great advice throughout this forum, touching on pretty much everything. Make sure to do your reading, it helps very much. Again, welcome, and good luck!!

as for the initial shape, what you have in your profile is what you need from what i see. i shave anything from the side of my mouth and below.

the starting of the tache will prob be 3 months. at 2 you can prob get a small flick. but products will prob be required to old it. from what i have seen in the movie he uses a kind of gel or cream to give him the hold. but to achieve his length you will need prob 4/5 months. all this depends on how fast your hair grows.

i would say no to trim the centre like bill's (though he doesnt have it greatly trimmed). also invest in a comb/brush for your tache when it gets longer to start the training as soon a possible.

good luck and it looks like you will easily get your goal.. nice dense tache area you have there

Thanks kyle!...yeah, if theres one thing ive learned from here...NO TRIMMING! It is a pretty dense area...besides the goat, its the only dense facial hair I can grow...oh well, maybe its a sign...

Looks like you are off to a good start. As you have read, don't trim. You will itch like an SOB, and it will look pretty ugly for awhile, but you will get through it. Good luck and keep us posted!
