Hello all ~ I am not sporting a handlebar yet, but am on my way & starting to get the 'stache under control. I'm waxing it in the morning before I head out the door, but during the course of the day it seems to lose hold.
Should I /do you wax more than once or twice during the course of a day? What else should I be doing to train my moustache to do what I want.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Tim

There are many here who are reliant on wax for both training and styling. I'm more of a 'wash and wear' and tend to regard wax as a styling aid (to define/refine the look) and less of a training aid. For me, the key has been early and persistent training to the side from damp and with the aid of a blow dryer. I'm not bothered if it doesn't hold all day but now, with length and years of training, it tends to do so anyway

I do both, however I am not one to have a perfect stache. I use wax to initially shape my stache... As the day wears on it keeps the shape but has a more natural look. Also, if I'm just sitting around I will use more wax than normal to train my stache as my hair tends to loose its training, Lol... It all depends on what you want. If you want a perfect stache, I recommend using glue.. Make sure you look around the forum as erictj has excellent threads and how to articles.. Hope that helps you out!

Sometimes I will touch up my moustache after lunch or dinner. I don't usually wear my moustache tightly styled and like it to look pretty natural, so I use very little wax. Better to use too little and have to perform a touch-up midday than to use too much and have to wash our your moustache and start again, I say.

By the way, the glues I use will wash out easily if you need to repair or want to change styles, and hold very well. And they give you more styling options as you gain length. The gluestick will last all day and night in the curls, and the Aleene's it tougher in the body of the stache.

I find that when I first started the HB thing, that I needed to wax a couple of times a day. And I believe that was only because I was extremely self-conscious of the whole facial hair thing.
Once you find a wax that "fits" your 'stache, you will wax less. If you find yourself waxing a lot during the day, try a stiffer wax, and try not to be self-conscious.

Whenever I wax my stache it is for an event or gathering of some sort, so not a lot of opportunities to reapply, but 1stimesacharm is right by the end of the night you have a fantastic natural looking moustache that keeps itself in the upright position.

bb: agreed with the end of the night thing. Sometimes my stache looks better at the end of the day!

There are many products besides wax...in the picture below I am experimenting with a new product....the end look is more of a rustic western look..think Schnauzer! It holds up well but as you can see, its not really a perfect looking stache. You can always hit me up for ideas...hope this helps!

I have found that if I try to re-apply in the day then it generally becomes more trouble than it was worth and I never seem to be able to get the quantities correct. Instead I have the following approach: 1) If I want it to look the same at the end of the day as the start then I use Brothers Love and try not to play with it. By doing this it will keep it's shape throughout. 2) If I don't mind it changing shape a little but want quite defined curls then I still use Brother Love, but don't worry about twirling etc as this tends to break up the hardest bits and leaves it looking more natural. 3) If I am happy with a more natural all day but want a little control I use Bounder wax which does a real good job of that and will accept some fondling without any trouble. 4) If I want a really waxed look, English style, really defined tips etc then I will use Bounder to do this and give really good shape and definition.
For me it is a lot of trial and error, but one thing I have found is that recently I have started using Elvive spray and leave conditioner and by doing this whatever I do has been more similar throughout the day with less wax required and much nicer curls. It may just be coincidence, but as I say trial and error.
Long and short is I haven't settled on one style, one technique and with changing length, then the technique seems to adapt with the seasons. I would suggest doing whatever it takes to make your moustache look as you want it to and with all the different hair types and wax types etc, if it looks like you want it to, then keep doing that!
