I'm testing again Aileen's Clear Gel Tacky Glue today. It's crystal clear and goes on easily and quickly, dries flexible but stiffer where there is more. In solid curls would be very hard and require some soaking in a hot shower to remove completely, like glue stick. Apply about one drop per side applied with a finger. Easy to comb through the hair to distribute evenly. Try not to get it on the skin as it will be shiny and peel off like peeling skin. Non-toxic - no worries. Shape it carefully to avoid clumps, then hit it with the blow dryer to set it. It makes the hair shiny and a touch darker, as if it were wet, but doesn't really look wet. In this instance there is only a trace of glue in the curls but it's helping them hold their structure. My hair curls naturally, but at this length I give it some help with a blow dryer to remind it of its duty. Aileen's will wash out fairly easily, but may damage as it's a sort of soft glue like white glue when in moist environments. Pulling apart the hairs or combing too late may cause visible shreds of glue and you would have to start over. It seems pretty tough, though. I will report later how it wears through the day. By the way, today is my approximate 8 month anniversary from a bare upper lip, no trimming at all! or bigger at this address https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/wTc2-6oQRV3ATzKlaZneBA?feat=directlink

First off, happy anniversary Secondly, though I am unsure as to whether or not I will ever try glue in my moustache, I really liked your Picassa picture of your moustache with the comb in it!!

Thanks, Smedstad. Seriously, I've been using glue stick for a long time and it is great. Applies quickly, washes out easily, holds well, allows versatility in styles. As I mention in other posts breath condensation in cool weather degrades the hold, but otherwise it's a good product. It's not like it's a solvent based glue that won't wash out. I dare you to try it, Smedstad!
End of day report: the Aileen's Clear tacky glue () worked great. Only very minor structural degradation, but not noticable, and better durability overall than with glue stick. No noticable odor when dry. Looks very nice and maintained the color as slightly darker than when clean hair. No "fanging". When I got home I abused it gently with my fingers and found it still held up well, but on some tiny bits the glue peeled from the hair and looked like minor bits of lint. Not really noticable. Washed it out in two minutes with plain water.
If you try this do be sure not to get this sort of glue on your skin as you wont see it until it starts to peel off and then you will have odd and large flakes in or around your moustache. You might explore with a toothpick after drying to find any bits on your skin that need to be removed before going out for the day.

By the way, I like Aileen's glue much better than Got2Be glued.

Eric,
Bravo! Very well done. Wish my ends curled as easily as yours. Takes me ten minutes to get that.
Cheers,
Bob

Eric,
Two first-rate videos. Of the two products you showcase, do you have a favorite?

At present I'm preferring the Aleene's clear gel tacky glue now for its stability when exposed to humid breath all day. It seem's to have a shorter tacky period, though, which would make it less useful for some styles. The glue stick has its advantages in that sense as it goes on as a paste where the Aleene's is a thick liquid. I suggest you experiment with them both and find your applications. They are very cheap. The Aleene's was under three dollars, and dollar stores often have packs of glue stick, even Avery brand.

Eric,
Thanks much. I will give them a try, though it seems that your hair is much more manageble than mine would be.
Cheers,

Having the extreme conditions of your home town, Eric, I have to know. Is there anything you won't try?

Yes, Kellum, I'm fairly tame in my life style. I'm just inventive and creative. My whole family is like that, always trying to find better or cheaper ways to do things.
I would be curious if you would test the Aleene's glue in your Florida humidity and let me know how it works. They have it at most craft stores and Walmart. Get the clear kind if you try it.

I was mentioning the extreme conditions of the heat and dryness in NV desert. I meant no offense. I will try to give it a shot this weekend. I will not be able to report on the curls, as i have found I do not curl at all. Straight hairs all around, but, I will give it a shot. In a couple weeks I will be attending a 12 hour endurance race in Sebring, FL. Should be a good test for any method, will try some things between the inebriation and cow suit wearing. Kell

Picked up the Clear Tacky tonight. DUDE! AWESOME. Preliminary tests confirm the video this stuff does indeed easily shape my stache. The relative humidity did cause the glue to take more time to dry than what appeared in the vid, however, the "nuclear" option of the hair dryer did it's job. It held nicely for the 30 mins I left it in, nice tight hold.
I will never doubt Eric again. I will update as to if it will stand up all day or not. I am a gridiron football referee Saturday, and will be able to report if it stands up to a sporting event. I imagine the members of the club will be interested in that information if they still do cricket matches.
More to come!
Kell

Eric, first and foremost thanks for taking the time to make your vids and for the blog, pretty cool stuff. I used Aileen's tacky clear gel yesterday. I at first had an imperial going with it, which I did not think would suit a gridiron football game (I am a referee), so after washing it out with warm water in about a minute had an English going about 5 mins later. I must admit that I did use the Mrs' hair dryer to speed things along, and well worth it. The glue went in about 10am and I washed it out that night about 11. There was no noticeable difference from earlier. Please keep in mind that I was running around on a gridiron football field for three hours. Granted, the "Florida" weather that day was mid 70's (23-25 ) with relitive low humidity of 37%. Normally, during football season our temps are in the low 90's (32-34 ) with humidity about 80% or higher. All this to say that Aileen's held spectacularly, but I hardly broke a sweat. Again, this coming up weekend I will be watching an endurance race, the 12 Hours of Sebring which is LeMans style racing here in the states. I will bring Aileen's with me, but will not have a hair dryer and will report how well Aileen's holds up to beer heads and cigar smoke. Weather expected to be mid 80's (28-32) and dry. Kell
