Being your average scruffy sixteen year old, my face has a tendency to get a bit oily from time to time. Now this can make things a bit odd, as I'm trying to cultivate something of a beard for the holidays. I'm not horribly greasy or anything, but it can still be a bit of a challenge.
So how do y'alls deal with washing the face when the scruff is up? I've just been lathering up with soap and whatnot as usual, but I feel like the beard impedes it getting down to the actual skin. Then again, the skin under the 'burns doesn't seem to get to bad by itself. I dunno what do to about this, really.

Do as you have been doing. Soap and water does the job well enough. You can always shampoo your facial hair and that, while cleaning the hair, will also get underneath it to the skin. Simply work either soap or shampoo in with your fingertips and not the fingernails. Rinse it out and all is well.
Shampoo is designed to pull dirt and oils from the hair so I imagine that it would do the same to the skin underneath the hair.

In a similar vein, is it worth using conditioner on facial hair?

Yes, it is. I don't every day, but it does work!

Indeed! If you run out of shaving cream, use conditioner,... it works fine and helps soften the hair, relaxing it a bit. Though my whiskers could really use more relaxing as they go near completely haywire when not waxed!

mr.v You might like to try Aussie Miracle Moist conditioner, or Mane 'n Tail Deep Moisturising Conditioner made by a company called Straight Arrow.
