I think many of us probably have a tendency to stand too close to the mirror, or even – Heaven forbid – use a magnifying mirror for facial hair grooming. This can be a big problem with regard to both waxing and trimming. If you stand too close, any stray hair or other imbalance becomes huge. However, if you stand an arm's length away (a fairly standard personal distance), your moustache will immediately look so much better. You will need less wax to make it look good and you will be less tempted to trim.
After having my handlebar for about a year now, I can easily echo the sentiments that have been written around here before: we are our own worst critics. Remember that no one stares at your moustache, much less stands mere inches from your face! Your moustache is inspiring to others; they look at it like they do cleavage or the sun, with furtive glances of admiration. Don't make the mistake of standing too close to the mirror or, like Narcissus, you will inevitably turn to the blade and destroy your beauty.

Agreed, and staring at a photo of oneself at length is not a good idea either. Although, that is not meant to discourage anyone from posting images here.

Very well put Smedstad. Love the literature tone. I can add we have to care for the moustache with joy and be happy with what we have.
At the beginning I was very nervous if I lost hairs, or the wax didn't work. Today I do a good care of my moustache without worrying and it is MUCH better now. Strong and healthy.
PS: So the moustache is the male version of a cleavage ? I knew it ! That's why everyone looks.

One of the several possible visual male versions of the cleavage, perhaps? Better ask the ladies... David

Deer and antelope carry their rack on their heads; a woman's on her chest; and we Handlebars carry ours on our face - facial rack. David Dade wrote: Better ask the ladies... Well-put, smed! I found after I shaved the goat that I was EXTREMELY self-conscious about having a bare chin. ONE person said something to me, and that was "oh, you shaved your beard." Even my own mom didn't say anything. We are so fixed on our faces and so therefore, everyone else must be fixed on our faces too. (Jr. High boys excepted - they can't help it - they can't wait to shave).

The male version of cleavage, perhaps. Occasionally the thought crosses my mind, "Hey, my eyes are up here." Granted that's just 2 inches up, but lol.
As I've said before, everyone seems to think my moustache looks better than I think. They never notice the imbalance or stray hairs or what not. One woman said, "Oh my God, it's perfect!" when I knew otherwise, so whatever.

From now on, I will reply stupid questions about my moustache this way:
- No, no ! This is an old-fashioned facial rack.
Hah, good one Schnauzer.

Not old-fashioned, it's anachronistic style - fashion is fleeting, style is eternal.

It's already been suggested - she turned and fled.
