"A Handlebar Moustache is indeed a glorious facial hair feature. Whether it stands alone or crowns some other form of facial hair, the glory comes from it being a 'Handlebar' and not simply an ordinary moustache." - Schnauzer

Well I would suggest Switzerland. Why not choose Bern?

It would be nice 8)

Otherwise France and especially Paris would be a good choice...

That would work for me too.

Doug, WBMC is a bi-annual event. Gives us plenty of time to get our facial hair in shape!!

Doug I'm quite sure that the wait for Anchorage will be well worth it. We have just awarded a contract to a event and destination management company with a great track record. Evrything is being well thought out. Time of year - End of May which is when the fresh kings are coming home from the ocean. Plenty of wildlife to be seen in and around Anchorage it's self. I would also like to thank the Handlebar club for the continued help and support as we plan for 2009 and how valuable the information they have sent us has been. This is how it should be with the event planning process every time the event is held with full and open support from all previous host of the WBMC. I feel we are getting just that. Looking forward to seeing you all there. We are celebrating 58 years of competiton this March 1st, 2008- information can be found at our web page on tickets. www.geocities.com/scakbmc/

Would some of the fellows who have attended one of these events describe what goes on? I'd love to attend and am curious about how the weekend plays out.

Thanks in advanced.

Wasn't there some broo-haha surrounding the 2004 champion and his Charlie Chaplin styled moustache?

Following my own experiences in Brighton last year, I've been pondering how to adequately describe the event, but it's hard think of anything else that remotely relates to it. Sure, a factual list of the day's activities (pre-register, meet people, take part in parade, eat, drink, compete on stage, pose for cameras, collect prize 8) ) is straightforward enough, but that doesn't even begin to describe the true experience. I guess a gathering of that many individual characters was always going to throw up a few surprises, but I really hadn't bargained for what I actually encountered. I feel sure that it'll be a day that I remember for the rest of my life.

I've really no idea how similar the Brighton event was to those that went before it. Nor, of course, can I acurately predict how any future events might turn out. However, if you've got the chance to go along and experience it for yourself, then based upon my own experience of last years event alone, I'd highly recommend giving it a go.

There's a video on the Handlebar Club Web Site that may work for you Loki, if you have Windows Media Player and the source site lets you play it in whichever country you are... It gives a pretty good impression of the 2007 WBMC day and its events.

Click on mms://asf.narrowstep.tv/mcp?psid=46781499&ref=0&chid=319&pid=1775&vid=43530857&br=1200&tid=1&void=93874&fab=0

(Unfortunately, the first part plays OK, but the second item is in 16x9 aspect ratio but WMP can't switch to that format, nor can it be set to. If you have Media Player Classic, you can choose the appropriate aspect ratio.)
